Games I’ve been playing – January 2022

The month of January felt surprisingly long. I honestly don’t remember when was the last time I played these many games and wasn’t just puttering for 10 minutes in each one.

On the other hand this wasn’t exactly planned. It was just my usual case of ADD kicking in and going “Oh, yeah, there is that game I used to play. I guess I will play it again for a little bit…”

Whatever the case may be I don’t have any regrets about what I played this month!

Games I’ve Been Playing – December 2021

December was a very intensive and busy month as far as gaming went. It felt like every game I cared about decided to release something major and time-sensitive at the same time!

Ok, not all games but enough of them and with enough content to keep me very, very busy.

Although I am happy I played them, this kind of intensive game is just not sustainable. In fact, I am still feeling a bit exhausted by it and if I could take the next few months of gaming at a more leisurely pace that would be nice. But I don’t think that will be possible, knowing certain games… *glares in Fate Grand Order direction*

Anyway, these are the games that kept me busy this month!

Games I’ve been playing – November 2021

A villager that sells armor

It is almost hard to believe that it is December already. I am not ready for the year to end! AAAAAH!

Anyway, November was almost one of those “MUST PLAY ALL THE GAMES!” kind of month. I’d like to say that didn’t happen because I got into a couple of very time consuming games but the truth is my heart just wasn’t into those other games.

It was just my rational mind that told me I should play other games for a reason or another. But every time I thought about playing them I just didn’t feel like it. Consequently I didn’t play more games as I’d rather not force it and sour the experience.

But enough rambling for now. These are the actual games I’ve been playing recently:

Seiji Amanome with a creepy expression and saying "A stranger's death dripping with danger and intrigue is a great source of entertainment"

I know I am sounding like a broken record by now but this was another month where things weren’t exactly good, mental health-wise. It began well enough but after a while I just felt irritated with everything for no reason and didn’t feel like doing anything.

Even to play games I had to force myself to do it and I just couldn’t get into it for any long period of time. Consequently I found myself either watching more anime or reading/thinking about TTRPGs a lot more.

I also missed this year’s Halloween event in Final Fantasy XIV which sucks. But I will try to at least do some of the moogle tome’s stuff to at least get that Inferno Jacket. I’d also like to get some other stuff done before the release of Endwalker. We’ll see how it goes!

Anyway, these are the games I’ve played this month!

Games I’ve been playing – September 2021

Another weird month for me. This time every time I was enjoying a game something in it would frustrate me to the point where I had to put it down for a little. Then I had some trouble trying to find something else to entertain me. When I finally found something else to replace it the cycle would repeat!

I think it might finally be over for now as I am finding myself enjoying my time with Minecraft again but we’ll see what I have to say about it next month!

Games I’ve been playing – August 2021

A special translation of Fou saying: "Damnit, I should offed him before he got away..."

Another year, another august gone and done. Speaking of which, I’d like to make a brief note about my participation in this Blaugust.

Although I did purposefully aim for the low post count of 5 posts for the event, in retrospect I wish I’d aim higher or made a bigger effort to go with the theme for each week.

Granted, I made this goal for myself because back in July I wasn’t in the best of places, mentally speaking. In fact I wasn’t even sure if I would be able to make 5 posts during August. Yet I still wanted to participate in some way and aiming that low looked like a good idea at the time.

However it still feels kind of pointless for me to participate in an event like this if all I am going to do is post as usual. This is something I need to keep in mind for next year’s Blaugust so I actually put some effort into it.

That aside, this Blaugust was fun as always. Lots of interesting topics and discussions to read, as well as some new people joining the fold or coming back. In this sense Blaugust is still fulfilling its purpose well.

A big thank you to Belghast for organizing this event once again!

Anyway, sorry for that side note there. Let’s talk about games!

Orangutan thinking. Image source is Wikimedia Commons: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Orangutan_thinking.jpg

Krikket recently came up with an interesting thought experiment that you can pretty much guess what it is about by the title alone. There isn’t really any rules about it except an “unspoken” one that all the answers to these questions only have to last for a year. But since that would be too easy for me I will go with the assumption that it would last for a life time just to have some weight to the answers.

Unnecessary to say I don’t intend to follow on any of these answers. It is a thought experiment after all. It would only be something that I’d do if there was some divine force making me choose one of these options and having to follow through with it.

Anyway that is enough of a preamble. Let’s get on with these questions.

P.S.: This is my post #5 for Blaugust 2021!

My experience with ADD and gaming

Recently Naithin, of Time to Loot, wrote about his difficulties in extracting values from games when he gets so easily distracted by a new game.

He even muses if he is somehow built different from other people as way to explain it. Pretty much concluding that whatever the reason for it he is mostly fine with his current status quo.

I did leave a comment on his post with some of my thoughts about it. Then I realized I could make a blog post about my experiences about it. Because unlike him, I am built differently. I have a diagnosed case of Generalized Anxiety Disorder and a mild case of attention deficit.

And unlike Naithin I am not fine with how it affects the games I play. I had to rack my brain a bit but these feelings is what I am going to try to talk about.

Spoiler warning though, I have no effective strategy on how to deal with it. If anyone has any ideas I am all ears.

Games I’ve been Playing – July 2021

During most of the month of July I had this funky mood where I didn’t really feel like playing games… or do much of anything. This time, what I found entertaining was to read the Pathfinder 2e Core Rules book, something I’ve been meaning to do for a while.

For people who do not play TTRPGs the idea of reading a book of rules like that may seem boring but I like to delve into new interesting systems and see how they achieve their goals. In the case of Pathfinder 2e I think it does an excellent job of being a game about heroic pseudo-medieval, everything and the kitchen-sink, kind of fantasy. I’d even go as far as to say it is my new favorite for that kind of genre.

Anyway, I did play some video-games this month, not many as I’d like but enough to make this regular monthly post. And those are the ones I will talk about!

P.S.: Blaugust has started and this is my post #1 for it. If you never heard of it, you can read all about it here. The TL;DR version is that it is a kind of challenge/celebration of blogging kind of event for both new bloggers and veterans alike.

Ganesha saying that their last battle was just a demo and now they would unleash their full power

This has been another one of those weird months. The first half was a blur, almost a distant memory that I can barely remember anything of.

The second half however felt like it dragged out and I couldn’t focus on anything, no matter how interesting or necessary it was.

The end result is I didn’t play as many video-games as I hoped for. With any luck the month of July will be better but I am expecting my inability to focus to continue a little longer.

Anyway, here is what I have been up to, gaming-wise!
