Games I’ve been playing – December 2020

Happy New Year!

May 2021 be a better year for all of us. Or at least not get any worse than the previous one. *knocks on wood*

This month Skyrim finally loosened it’s grip on me, so that I could move on to other games. I haven’t finished getting all the achievements for Special Edition yet but I intend to go back to it soon. My plan is to power through the remainder of the Dragonborn main questline (there shouldn’t be much left if memory serves) then work on the other optional achievements.

Once I complete that goal I am definitely done with this save and won’t be playing Skyrim again for a while as I am sated for what this game offered to me.

What I did play this month was a bit all over the place. It would have been more if it wasn’t for Minecraft but I will get to that in a bit. Let’s just go by chronological order. Sort of.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

I got back into this game due to watching some people playing it on YouTube. Before getting into the game I thought I had gotten 3 stars for all the championships in the 200 CC category. Turns out that wasn’t the case and despite all the time I haven’t played the game I was able to get done easily.

Getting 3 stars in any championship of the 300 CC category though is proving to be a lot harder. I also don’t remember if I was able to ever achieve that in the Wii U version. If not then that makes it even more of a reason for me to work on this goal!

I think I only played it for about the first week in December though so if I pick it up again I would have to rebuild whatever little skills I have!

Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate

Look, Zhong Hui, everybody had to overcome challenges in this game. This is yours.

I already had finished the story of the original version of Warriors Orochi 4 long before the Ultimate version was released. But when that happened I just wasn’t really in the mood for it so it gathered dust on my Steam Library until this month.

I was curious about what the extended storyline would bring and so far it seems to be given a bit more of explanation about the Big Bad Evil Guy’s plans. As far as the new characters and other additions, no opinion on it yet. I just haven’t played it as much as I intended to.

I will say this though: Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate is still a very fun game to just launch, beat some few thousand mooks for some minutes and then quit the game. It feels very cathartic in a way.

Minecraft

This one won’t come as a surprise to anyone who took a peek on this blog during the month of December.

In fact it is pretty much a miracle I didn’t play it exclusively during the whole month. It was so bad that if I wasn’t playing Minecraft then I was watching videos or reading about it. And if I wasn’t doing one of those then I was thinking about what to do next in the game! It was insane, I tell you!

I did decide to abandon my vanilla world though to play with some mods. But I will talk about it in a future post.

Fate Grand Order

Red Hare is quickly becoming one of my favorite servants!

I think I came pretty closely to counting the days for the Christmas event. Not because of the story of the event itself as it is wasn’t any more special or crazier than any of the other events in this game. It was all because of the Lotto!

For those who never played FGO, the events with a Lotto are an excellent way to get amber to level up Servants, materials for ascension and skills, QP (to do the aforementioned tasks) plus other stuff.

What I was really looking forward though was the Mana Prisms. A few months ago they put a really good Craft Essence, Chaldea Teatime, which I didn’t have enough Mana Prisms to buy all the copies at the time. They can also be slow to accumulate outside the events.

To make it worse this Craft Essence is available in the Mana Prism shop only for a limited time. I believe it will be added to the Rare Prism shop later on but that would make it even harder to get.

Anyway, it took some effort but I was able to get all the copies of it that I needed. I even got some more to acquire another future Craft Essence, the Bella Lisa. That one should be released at around February and will also be available for a limited time.

With all the Mana Prisms I got I should be able to acquire all the copies of Bella Lisa during its release. Or failing that, at least get almost of them.

As as a side effect I leveled up almost all my servants to the level cap. I just had to stop because I run out of ascension materials (curse you Void Dust!). I also decided to grail my Parvati to level 100 for several different reasons, the most important one being that I like her.

As for the event itself, wrestling tag team gimmick that limited us to two servants for the main quests fights wasn’t as bad I as feared. In fact almost of those fights were easy, with the exception of the next to the last one. For that fight I had to use my Command Seals to win the fight because I just couldn’t come up with a good strategy to beat it.

Fortunately the Challenge Quest this time was pretty easy and I didn’t have to use the Command Seals there too.

The welfare servant, Quetzalcoatl (Samba), seems to be a pretty good AOE Ruler servant. Granted the fights where Rulers can make a difference are pretty rare but it is nice to have them when the need arises.

P.S.: The image at the top is from the event that started today which by my self-imposed rules should only be allowed on the next month’s version of this post. However I couldn’t post it any other time of the year in a way that could make sense so I am making an exception. That and I just wanted an excuse to post a screenshot of Mash. :p
