This years has been so weird. I could swear it felt like it just begun not long ago and now here we are in December already!
November pretty much encapsulated that feeling for me. It felt like it just started then I blinked and then it was over. /sigh
This of course affected the games I’ve played this month. I was hoping to at least finish The House in Fata Morgana by now plus a few other personal projects but a lot of distractions happened, both intentional and non-intentional, preventing me from finishing anything!
Anyway, I better stop rambling here before it becomes even more incoherent. Let’s just go to the games.
The House in Fata Morgana
I believe I am near the end of Chapter 5 right now. The end of chapter 4 and the beginning of this one brought a plot twist that I didn’t expect and now I am questioning everything about this game!
This is not a bad thing, in fact it is just making me more curious about how the story will develop from this point forward and what the answers will be for certain plot points.
The game’s story continues to feel more like horribly tragic rather than horror but with all these twists it might still turn into actual horror before the game ends! Either way I am still enjoying it!
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
This game was my impulse purchase for Black Friday. Sort of. It is a bit of a convoluted story so let me try to explain.
I actually bought the original Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for the Playstation 4 a long, long time ago. Despite liking what I’ve played my heart wasn’t at it during that time and soon I got distracted by other games. Before I knew it enough time had gone by that they announced that Spider-Man Miles Morales would be released for the Playstation 5 and it would come with a copy of Spider-Man Remastered. So I thought instead of picking back up the original game I might as well buy the Miles Morales one and play the Remastered version.
Then by the time I finally got my Playstation 5 and was pondering about buying Spider-Man Miles Morales they announced they would be releasing both games on PC. Since that is my platform of choice I decided I might as well wait for it and play both of them on the computer.
Which leads us to now. In an impulsive decision to buy a game during Black Friday I opted for this one.
My initial fear was that I was only going to play it for about one hour then leave it to gather dust in the deep parts of my backlog. Turns out my fears were unfounded. I actually got addicted to the game and played it almost exclusively since my purchase.
I have no idea how far into the game I am right now. But unless I get distracted again (which might happen because of No Man’s Sky expeditions re-runs) I might actually finish it this month! (Famous last words)
Well, turns out I am still playing it. However I already decided I am going to quit playing Blue Archive after I see a bit more of the main story. No idea how long it will take me to get there though as I am at the point where things are starting to actually be challenging and slowed down dramatically.
There are also events which have been distracting me from that goal. The first one I participated was a re-run of the Summer Event. At least I think it is a re-run considering it was in November and we only had 6 days to complete it.
Story-wise it was pretty funny as the girls kept escalating every activity and kept getting into fights with the local thugs. Unfortunately due to the limited time and my roster of characters still being generally low-level I wasn’t able to complete all the optional tasks or clear the event shop. The most I was able to do was clear the main quests and see the story to the end, so I am at least happy for that.
Just as that event ended they already started another one! This is one of the many reasons I don’t play more gacha games and will be quitting Blue Archive eventually.
This new one is called “An Unconcealed Heart” and seems to be about helping the Ninjutsu Research Club. I haven’t gone too far into the story yet but so far it seems to be another event that is pretty funny.
It also lasts for 12 days but it is another one that I don’t see me being able to clear the event store unless I can miraculously level up my students in a short amount of time.
Fate Grand Order
November in FGO saw the addition of Heian-Kyo, a.k.a. Lostbelt 5.5. It was… okayish. Story-wise it felt a bit off for me. It wasn’t bad, it just felt clunky at certain points. It also felt that the story was just about Kintoki with us just tagging along for moral support.
Same thing with the fights. There were some that felt stupidly hard while the later bosses I was able to just steam roll thanks to having the right servants and CEs for the job.
I don’t know what exactly caused those problems, if it was because COVID was at it’s peak when this Lostbelt was released in Japan a couple of years back or if it was just the development team dropping the ball on this one or some other problem.
Nitpicks aside, it did make me like Kintoki more and I might try harder to roll for him next time he gets a rate-up.
I also decided I will be quitting Fate Grand Order. Mobile games just eat up too much of my time, which I’d rather spend playing single-player games. I am just not sure if I will play until the end of the next Lostbelt storyline or until the end of the current story arch.
If it is the first then I will quit at some point next year. If it is the latter then who knows when that will be. The current story arch hasn’t finished in Japan yet and they are two years ahead of us…
It is something I will need to ponder about.
