Blaugust 2021 is almost here!

August is almost upon us and with it comes an event very cherished by the blogging community: Blaugust!

In case you never heard of Blaugust before, it is an event hosted by Belghast, of Tales of the Aggronaut. It is basically an event to foster the creation of new blogs, welcome the return of dormant ones and for active blogs to have some fun together.

For new bloggers there will be mentors in Discord willing to answer questions and helping out within reason. There might also be some posts across participant blogs with tips and advice from veterans.

In the case of inactive bloggers, just join the event and get back to posting. Easy as that. And for everyone else, just join in and post as usual. XD

If anyone is worried about what topics to write about there will be some themed weeks for August with suggestions on topics to write about.

And this is pretty much the TL;DR version of it. For more details about the event and joining in as a participant you can find it here.

I will be participating this year but my goal will be the low hanging fruit of 5 posts during the month of August. I am in a bit of funky mood right now so that might be the most realistic goal for myself.

Growing up and the media that shaped me

Well, that didn’t take long. I already found a writing prompt from Promptapalooza that I feel compelled to write about. If you don’t know what Promptalooza is, you can find the details of the event here.

The TL,DR version of it is: there will be a writing prompt each day and someone will write about it then link to the next person who will write about a different prompt in the next day. It is kinda like a huge blog crawl during the month of August!

Again, I am not participating in the event in any way or form but I hope nobody will mind if I join in and write something based on a prompt or two.

Anyway, the prompt that spawned this post is one proposed by Mailvatar:

What are some key sources of media (games/movies/etc) that have shaped your worldview?

Please, take the time to read his post too. It is a pretty interesting read.

A shout-out to Promptapalooza

At first my intention was to write this as a side note in my “Games I’ve Played in July” post but then it started to become too big and I realized I should have wrote an actual post about it from the beginning.

There is a new blog event this month, called Promptapalooza, created by Belghast. You can find the details here. The TL,DR version is: there will be a writing prompt each day and someone will write about it then link to the next person who will write about a different prompt in the next day. It is kinda like a huge blog crawl during the month of August.

It is an special event to replace the traditional Blaugust this year since, by request of the community, it was done in April to help lift people’s spirits during the pandemic. Still people wanted some kind of event in August and again, Belghast was kind enough to come up with an event for the community.

A recipe for a blog post

A little while ago, Easha of Glittering Girly Gwent Gaming proposed a writing prompt in the Blaugust Discord server that was something like “Describe how you write a blog post like it was a recipe.”

Roger of Contains Moderate Peril and SDWeasel of Unidentified Signal Source both wrote some very interesting and insightful posts with that prompt. You can find those here and here.

I decided to join in too but instead of doing a post like them I will just take the prompt literally and write like it was a food recipe! I am doing it like this because this prompt triggers my silly side. Sorry~

A salve of Blapril for the weary soul

Regular blog readers probably already heard of Blaugust, that yearly event where bloggers try to write one post every day during the month of August.

This year it will be starting earlier, in April, because in the words of Belghast himself: “we can use a dose of internet togetherness to combat the negative effects of social distancing”.

For anyone who anything of what I said sounds like I was speaking of some kind of obscure foreign ritual, read on and I will try to explain.

Characters and me

Blaugust is ending and with this post I accomplished my goal for it this year. Once again it was pretty fun with a lot of new blogs (or new to me) participating and some pretty good discussion on the Discord server. 🙂

I was going to do a recap of Final Fantasy’s XIV anniversary event, the Rising, for this last post but I haven’t felt like playing it for a while and haven’t done it yet. So I will just use this Twitter poll by Belghast, of Tales of the Aggronaut, as my blog prompt for the day. To quote the poll:

There is a discussion happening elsewhere so I’m curious. For me all of my game characters are just cosmetic shells for the digital “me”. Getting the impression I am deeply in the minority here

I have no idea where this discussion happened or what is being talked about but I am going to join anyway and there is no one that can stop me! Mwahahahaha! 😀

My least favorite classes to play

Before starting just a bit of administrative news. Over the weekend I changed hosts for the blog. I was trying to put this off until the end of the Blaugust to lessen the possibility of chaos but circumstances forced me to do it now. So if things were broken or weird during the weekend that is why.

This was far more painful than I expected due to, in large part, some dumb mistakes I made. Also right now “Likes” and “Related Posts” are broken because Jetpack is a jerk and everything I tried to fix hasn’t quiet worked. I will keep trying. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Anyway, let’s get to this post as we continue with topic prompts from last year’s Blaugust. This time it is from Ocean Marie of Soul of the Forest. Her prompt is:

What Class Do you REFUSE to Play?

Forewarning: This will be a bit rambly. :p

If I could only play one game for the rest of the year

Continuing with prompts from last year’s Blaugust, this time it is one from Chestnut from Gamer Girl Confessions:

If you could only play one game for the rest of 2018, what would it be? It doesn’t have to be an MMO. Would you just ignore games the rest of the year if you could only play one?

I was going to pick Final Fantasy XIV but that kind feels like cheating. Plus I already talk a lot about Final Fantasy XIV here so might as well choose a different game.

Having said that if I could only play one game for the rest of the year it would be Fire Emblem Three Houses.

Some thoughts about hype

This is post #11 for Blaugust 2019

It finally happened, I am out of topics for Blaugust for now. Fortunately I still have the links for topic prompts from last year’s Blaugust to look through and get some ideas.

One thing I am noticing is that the majority of the prompts are topics about us or our personal feelings about something. Which I can see why: it is pretty easy to write about something more personal. And although I don’t mind to write about myself I am also getting a bit tired of doing such personal topics one after another. Unless something changes I think that will be the nature of my posts until the end of Blaugust.

Also, please don’t take me wrong: I am really grateful for all the topic prompts people wrote last year. They are helping me a lot to get through these last days of the event after all. This was just a bit of a digression and frustration with myself. 🙂

Anyhoo, this is a topic suggested by Gracie from Moonshine Mansion: “What gets you hyped about a game?”

Since the topic of hype has been popping up recently on the blogosphere I might as well talk about my personal experience with hype as a whole.  If you want to see other people’s opinions on the subject there is this post by Krikket, of Nerd Girl Thoughts where she talks about why she won’t board the Hype Train. There is also this one by Belghast, of Tales of the Aggronaut, where he ponders what changed as he isn’t as hyped as much about upcoming game releases. If I forgot anyone I apologize and please add the link to the post in the comments.

This post will be also an expanded version of the comments I left in both of these blogs.

P.S.: This post will be more negative and full of snarky than my usual ones.
