Games I’ve been playing – March 2021

Moriarty saying this will be a tale of regret

Although I haven’t quite gotten out of the “Play all the games!” mindset yet, it has abated quite considerably. Part of the reason is because my passion for the games I was playing has cooled considerably for now. The other part is because I’ve been immersing myself a lot into tabletop RPG. It isn’t even because of the campaigns I am playing, it is just my usual madness taking over.

Anyway, March has brought some interesting new incursions in gaming as well as some retreats. Yet my mind still desires to finish a bunch of half- or almost-finished games, but my heart just wasn’t in there. Maybe in April it will be different.

Regardless of all that, here is what I have been up to.

[Civ VI] Long Live the Queen – Need more Pylons, I mean, Production (Turns 401 – 410)

It’s been a long time since my last turn at this succession game. So long that I am feeling pretty rusty at playing it. Granted there was nothing preventing me from playing Civilization VI between my turns, in fact I almost considered it. But I haven’t been feeling in the mood for it and even if I did then it would be with all the DLCs which would not help me much here as we are playing it with just the base game.

Anyhoo, if you just stumbled here somehow, this post is part of a collaborative Succession Game of Civilization VI where different blogger each take 10 turns playing the game then pass on the save to the next player. It is being hosted by Naithin of Time to Loot and you can find a link to all the participants, their posts about the event and other information here.

Games I’ve Been Playing – September 2020

A good sign that I am having trouble writing the intro to these posts is when I seriously consider commenting on the weather here. I don’t really feel like doing that so let’s just pretend I wrote something relevant to the month of September here and skip straight to the content, ok?

[Civ VI] Long Live the Queen – Alliances and Wars (Turns 331- 340)

It is my turn to rule over the Great British Empire again!

One of the interesting things about this project is that every time I get back to the game it feels at the same time familiar and different. By that I mean, our borders or that of our rivals haven’t changed that much since my last time at the throne.

Yet at the same time we have far more advanced military units, we are pretty much at the end-game now and more than ever it feels like every decision matters.

It is a strange feeling but an interesting one.

For anyone who just stumbled on this, this post is part of a Community Succession game hosted by Naithin of Time to Loot. You can find more information about it and links to all the participating blogs here.

With all that said, let’s get to screwing everything up improving the Great British Empire!

Games I’ve been playing – August 2020

This has been another month where I played way less than I wanted to due to my mood just being… low, so to speak.

Seriously, brain, what is up with you? We should have been back to normal last month! Why are you still like this?

Random crazy talk aside, I did manage to make a bit of progress in a couple of the games I wanted to play. Not much progress but still better than nothing. Hopefully this month should be a bit better.

But that is enough rambling about that. Here is what I’ve played last month.

Games I’ve Been Playing – May 2020

May actually felt like a long month. So long that I am almost afraid that I forgot to mention some games I played during this month. Not that it is a big deal but I like the idea of having a record of some sort of what I was playing during the year.

One thing that didn’t happen this month was that I wanted to get back into Final Fantasy XIV and try to at least finish the Shadowbringers storyline and a few other things before canceling my subscription due to the economic crisis here. Unfortunately that didn’t happen as I kept postponing on it as I kept feeling overwhelmed with the thought of everything necessary to do before I could do any of those stuff. Some times taking breaks from a MMO can really suck. :p

In brighter news, I got quite a few things organized both in games and in real life. More in games than in real life but considering how long I’ve been meaning to do this, I will just consider it a win. :p

Anyway, enough rambling, this is what I’ve been to in this month, game-wise.

[Civ VI] Long Live the Queen – War in Ancient Times! (Turns 91 – 100)

When we started this project I honestly thought it would take at least a month for it to be my turn to play the game again, specially with so many participants. But it is actually going pretty fast, probably as a result of each of us being only able to play 10 turns.

If you have no idea what I am talking about then here is a brief explanation: Naithin of Time to Loot invited some of us bloggers to play a game of Civilization VI, cooperatively. Each of us play the game for 10 turns and then once it is done we pass on the save to the next person. Rinse and repeat until we either beat the game or meet utter defeat!

He even made a page for it that you can check here. You can find all the details there, including who the participants are and a link to each post narrating what happened during their turns. If you like what you see here, please consider following all of them as they are all excellent folks.

The banner on the top of the post was also made by Naithin.

Games I’ve been playing – April 2020

Despite the Coronapocalypse, or perhaps because of it, April was one of those weird months that felt too long but at the same time too short. The fact that this month had a lot of excellent game releases hasn’t helped either. Seriously, is it too much to ask for at least one year with bad game releases so we can catch our breath and our wallets aren’t being murdered every month?

Even with all that I still end up playing less games than I was hoping for. Granted I did enjoy the games I played but some of the monopolized my gaming time more than I’d like to.

Anyway, enough whining, let’s get this show on the road!

[Civ VI] Long Live the Queen! – Meeting new people and killing them (or some of them) – Turns (11 – 20)

Naithin of Time to Loot came up with the idea of doing a succession game of Civilization VI and invited some of us bloggers to participate. You can find the details here.

The TL;DR version is: We’ll be playing only with the base game so the most people can join. Each person will play for 10 turns and then pass on the save for the next turn. Then they will blog about it. Rinse and repeat until we beat the game or everything go terribly wrong and we lose. XD

Also, if it isn’t obvious by the banner, we’ll be playing England.

The current participants are, in order of play:

  1. Naithin
  2. Rakuno
  3. Paeroka
  4. Tessa (aka Endalia)
  5. Krikket
  6. UnwiseOwl
  7. Rambling Redshirt
  8. Kanter

If you are interested on this series, please follow all of them to see where this games goes. 🙂

P.S.: Banner created by Naithin.
