Since I didn’t make a post in the last few days I will do a catch-up with this one. I am skipping question 27 though since I am not into music enough that I could pick anything I’d feel right for Rakuno.

All my answers  will be about my character Rakuno, my ratonga monk in Everquest 2. From this point on until question 29 it will be him doing all the talk!

Question 28: If your character’s life was a genre, what would it be?

Uh… I am not really into books so I don’t know what kind of genres are. Adventure, I guess? Is that a genre?

Question 29: How does your character smell? Do they wear perfume or cologne?

Like fancy clothes I don’t wear colognes unless it is for special occasions like weddings, holiday parties and so on. The rest of the time though… I dunno, I guess I smell like your average ratonga smell. *shrugs* I never really bothered to smell myself.

Question 30: And finally: Write a letter to your character, from yourself.

Dear Rakuno,

It is kinda scary to think we’ve been adventuring through Norrath  for almost 9 years now. Everquest 2 might be the MMORPG I played the longest so far (even if I’ve been quitting the game for longer and longer periods of time). And even my  times where I have been actually invested into the game it hasn’t been all smooth sailing either. I guess that is just how it goes with any online game.

Still the good times certainly outweigh the bad. Through you I’ve found some good friends, found a good creative outlet through house decoration and even started blogging. All things that I feel my life would be a lot more poor if I hadn’t experienced them.

Heck, I even became lazy and started reusing character names in every game I play, yours being the first pick whenever I feel it is appropriate. So even if I ever find myself quitting Everquest 2 for good, know that you will live on, as long as I do, in some form, in some world.

But for now all I want to do is for us to keep kicking butts, taking names and building cool places in Everquest 2. Just like we always did from the start.

Regards,

Rakuno

Final Thoughts

The 30 Days of ARPil has certainly been a fun and interesting event. I even kept with it better than I expected too, if I am going to be perfectly honest.

The best parts to me were probably because it allowed me to rethink Rakuno’s background as wasn’t exactly happy with how it originally was. It also allowed me to think of bits and parts that never occurred to me, giving the character slightly more depth. And like any good event it exposed me to other blogs I’d probably miss otherwise. I will probably be adding them to my blogroll in the future.

So, for all of that, I thank you Pizza Maid for starting The Days of ARPil. Thank you also to everybody who read my posts during this month even if my roleplaying isn’t that great and my screenshots even worse.

[ARPil] Day 26 of 30 – Day of Favorites 2: The Favoritism

Question 26: Second day of favorites! Favorite comfort food, favorite vice, favorite outfit, favorite hot drink, favorite time of year, and favorite holiday.

Favorite comfort food would be cheese.

Favorite vice is drinking. No, I never stopped drinking, I just manage it better nowadays. Plus I wouldn’t be a proper follower of Brell if I stop consuming booze altogether.

Favorite outfit used to be my gi. But lately I took a liking to this yellow and grey outfit I bought during tinkerfest. It goes pretty well with my googles.

Favorite hot drink is coffee. Pretty good for those long nights when you need to get work done.

Favorite time of the year would be late at the year when it gets colder. It just feels more comfortable for me.

Favorite holiday is Brew Day of course.

[ARPil] Day 25 of 30 – Monk hands!

Question 25: Describe your character’s hands. Are they small, long, calloused, smooth, stubby?

My hands? Hm. From my observations my fingers are longer than humans, comparatively speaking. Compared to other ratongas they are average sized. They are also smooth. Which ends up being a surprise to a lot of people considering my life style. When I was training as a monk I learned about certain remedies and pumice stones I can use to keep my hands smooth and healthy.

Part of the reason we do that is again, having a healthy body is important to us. The other is because some times we may need to fight. And some times the fight might require the use of a weapon. When you use a weapon you need to have a good grip on it otherwise bad things may happen. It is hard to have a good grip if your hands have callouses or blisters. So we try to take good care of our hands.

Don’t let the smooth of our hands fool you though. A good monk’s hand may be smooth but it can hit like iron!

[ARPil] Day 24 of 30 – The Ideal Partner

Question 24: What might your character’s ideal romantic partner be?

Hmmm… That is not something I ever gave much thought to. Plus all my previous relationships were back in Freeport. I was a pretty different person then. I guess it would have to be someone who loves adventuring too. That is pretty much a big part of my life now. A person who preferred a safe and stable life would never adapt to a life like that. And if they remained in Qeynos or one of their allied cities, she would be constantly worried about my whereabouts. That just wouldn’t be fair to a woman like that.

Now a woman who loves adventuring would be a completely different story. We could travel all over the world, exploring everything it has to offer, good and bad. Heck, I’d probably end up learning even more about Norrath and myself with a person like that by my side. Of course it would also have to be someone kind. I’ve seen enough needlessly cruelty to last a life time and have little tolerance for it nowadays.

Now, this is the part where I’d lament not having more time for a social life but considering the number of adventurers out there right now, I’d say I have some pretty good chances to meet someone like that. So I am not too worried.

[ARPil] Day 23 of 30 – For Brell

Question 23: Is your character superstitious?

I do not consider myself superstitious. But I do have a little ritual that I do everyday after I wake up. I am follower of Brell so every day I make an offering to him in the form of the best drink I can find. If I am in Qeynos I just put it on a bowl then place it on his altar. If I am traveling I pour a bit on the biggest rock I can find. Once my offering is done I do a little player asking for his blessing and a productive day.

For a non-follower this may seem silly but I figure it doesn’t hurt to make an appropriate offering for your deity of choice and to try to be on their right side. At least it didn’t hurt me so far.

[ARPil] Day 22 of 30 – Practical

Question 22: If your character could time travel, where would they go?

I know the fashionable answer for this type of question would be to say some big historical event like “I would go back to find out how Luclin blew up” or “I’d go back and stop Lucan D’Lere to become the ruler of Freeport” or some variant thereof.

In my case I have something a lot less ambitious, a lot more personal in mind. I’d just go back to the moment my family fled Freeport, find out where they went. Then I’d come back to the present, go to their destination and convince them to move to Qeynos. It just seems a lot more practical to me plus we don’t have to worry about changing history in some unforeseen, possibly horrible, ways.

[ARPil] Day 21 of 30 – Mark

Question 21: What would your character’s cutie mark be?

What is a cutie mark?

… … …

Are you serious? Is that for real? You are?!? Well, ok then. Let me try giving a serious answer then…. Hmm…. I guess my… cutie mark, sorry it is just hard to take that term seriously, would be that of a hammer. For me, the hammer is a symbol of my trade, carpentry, and also a symbol of hard working. Since I try to work hard in everything I do I think it would be a suitable mark for me.

Hey! Stop laughing! You said it was a serious question!

[ARPil] Day 20 of 30 – Fear

Question 20: Does your character have any irrational fears?

Not anymore, no. What I mean by that, and I know this is starting to sound repetitive, is that after I fled Freeport I was really afraid of the Dreadnaughts. So much that any sudden noise would make me jump on edge, trying to find what the source of it. If I saw any member of a race traditionally aligned with Freeport I would think they were spies for the Dreadnaughts. Even sleep wouldn’t bring me rest as I would wake several times at night with the certainty that they broke into my house and would drag me to Freeport for a public execution.

It too me many years of meditation to get over those fears and now I can live a normal life. Well, as normal as anyone that travels around the world facing all kinds of danger can have in any case.

Oh, and by that I don’t meant to imply I don’t get scared anymore. I still do. The gods know how many horrible things are in Norrath. The difference is that now I don’t let my fears rule over my life. I try to face them directly so I can keep moving forward.

[ARPil] Day 19 of 30 – Flying

Question 19: What’s your character’s preferred means of travel?

For the longest time my preferred means of travel was on foot. I know it sounds unconventional considering the different horses, beasts and what-else people use for mounts these days but I always felt there was something honest and good about wandering around on your own two feet.

Then I started to explore around the Great Divide, I helped some people there that rewarded me with a gryphon. At first I wasn’t sure about flying around with it. I mean, it wouldn’t be anything all that new, I flew on gryphons before but it was to travel long distances. Plus those gryphons were trained to follow a specific route, no matter what the rider tried to do. My gryphon though was trained to follow its riders commands, from the brief lessons I got there was a lot of similarities to ride it just like a ground mount but quite a few differences too. I pondered for a bit to just keep going on foot but there were some places in there that could only be reached by flying. So I hoped on the gryphon and went on for my first flight… It was one of the most wonderful sensations in my life. There is just a certain freedom, a certain beauty in flying around, even if it is on top of an animal, that just can’t be described in words. Now whenever I can I just fly everywhere.

As for the gryphon, I eventually retired him by leaving him in a safe place where he is being taken good care of. I switched to a Winged Bovoch, one of those creatures created by Bristlebane. Yes, I know it looks like weird cross between a raptor and a cow with wings. Yes, I know this is some kind of weird joke by Bristlebane and I’d probably should expect some prank any time now. But for some reason the little guy caught my interest enough to buy her during one of Bristlebane Days and since then she has been my faithful steed. Something I can’t see changing any time soon.

[ARPil] Day 18 of 30 – At least it is edible

Question 18: Is your character a good cook? What’s their favorite recipe, whether they’re good or not? (Microwave mac-and-cheese applies.)

I am a terrible cook. I tried to learn it once but never got very far with it. I just know enough so I don’t have to eat soup every day. I wouldn’t call what I make good though. It is just edible. Still better than starving to death.

As for my favorite recipe, it is probably Bangers and Mush. They are easy to make and provide a lot of energy to get you through the day. It is so easy that I think you can just find the ingredients anywhere. At least I think you can find eggs and sausage pretty much anywhere. The way Norrath is, it is quite possible there is some weird plane where it is impossible for those to exist.
