This post is part of The 30 Days or ARPil event created by Pizza Maid of Pizzamaid.moe. You can find more information about it in here and the 30 questions here. If you are interested on seeing who is participating on the event there is a block to the right with all blogs that are part of it too. Let me know if I forgot someone or put someone in there by mistake. 🙂
All my answers will be about my character Rakuno, my ratonga monk in Everquest 2. From this point on it will be him doing all the talk!
Question 2: Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don’t have any, is there a reason?
I have a few scars in different parts of my body. No good story with any of them though, they are just the result of a life of adventurer, something that anyone who has chosen this life would have. But I did say I would explain how I lost my eye and you did buy me another drink. So it will have to count as a scar.
It happened while I was still living in Freeport, part of a gang. One day me and some other guys got so drunk that we decided to go cause some trouble in town. We thought it would be fun and we had nothing better to do either. So off we went in the night shouting curses to all the big names of Freeport, breaking windows, even got the time to paint in a wall what we really thought about Lucan D'Lere. Then there was this lone guy coming down the street. We decided to just beat him up and rob him for no other good reason than we could. We did that and heard the guards coming, someone probably finally called them after all the ruckus we made. So we scrambled.
One day after that our boss called an emergency meeting. When I arrived at our usual spot there were 3 members of the Dreadnaughts by the boss' side. Now, if you never heard about the Dreadnaughts let me explain. They are a group of brawlers in Freeport. The biggest and meaniest one. Their philosophy of life can be boiled down to "Hit the other party as hard as you can and don't stop until they stop moving". Although most of the Dreadnaughts wouldn't stop even at that. Oh, they are also sanctioned by the Overlord himself. I heard their leader answers directly to Lucan D'Lere too. So, as you can imagine they aren't the kind of people you want to cross unless you have a death wish.
Anyway, at first I thought they heard about us, that they wanted to make us part of their organization. That was what the meeting was going to be about. As my boss started to talk I realized how wrong I was. Turns out that guy we beat the other night was the little brother of one of the Dreadnaughts there. They wanted to know who did it and if the gang just showed who was the guilty party the rest of them would be spared. If not then everybody would die. You can imagine there wasn't much of a feeling of loyalty going at that moment. So everybody just pointed at us and we were brought in front of these Dreadnaught guys. One of them, a human, looked at us and asked "Any of you have any last words?". None of us said anything. I don't know if it was out of fear, resignation or what. We just stood there in silence. Then the guy said "Thought so. Well, if it is any consolation to you, I lied before." then he smiled the most evil smile I've ever seem. "We are actually going to kill everyone in here. I just wanted to know who attacked my brother so I could kill them personally."
Well, if nobody wanted to fight these guys before out of loyalty, survival certainly did change their minds pretty quick. It was to no avail though. Those guys were like monsters attacking little children. In just a few minutes everybody of the gang was dead. I only survived because I played dead. Still lost my eye though. And as soon as the coast was clear I made my way out of Freeport. Never looked back.
Most of the families of members of the gang also fled the city as soon as they heard about it. That includes my family too. Those who could not flee pretended they didn't know anything about the gang. Everybody was afraid that the Dreadnaughts might come back and kill more people just because they had some connection to us. From what I hear, they never did though. I guess they were content with the bloodbath they caused.
Now I usually like to finish this story by saying there are two lessons from this. Number 1: never join a gang or any no-good group. If you do, you will be lucky to get out of that life with losing just one eye. Number 2: Be careful with who you pick a fight with. It is not just your life in the line. It is the life of your family, your friends and everybody else you care about. There are just some very evil people in this world who will be happy to take their revenge on them.
