Games I’ve been playing – February 2021

Some random guy bowing down to my character in a cutscene

This was one of those months where I got the urge to “PLAY ALL THE GAMES!!!!1!!!one!!!eleven!!!”. But as usual when I get that kind of feeling my ambitions end up being greater than what I can actually play.

It didn’t help that my sleep has been extra bad this month so there were some days where I didn’t have the energy or the desire to play anything. Instead I chose to just lay on the bed and watch something as it required less effort.

The other reason is that I spent a good chunk of time preparing to DM a D&D one-shot for some of my group. This I consider time well spent. We all had a blast and I gained some confidence in my abilities to DM a game… as long as I have a written adventure, that is. XD

I will still have to prove to myself that I can make a whole adventure from scratch but that is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Anyway, this is what I’ve been up to in gameland:

Games I’ve been playing – January 2021

For some reason for me January felt like it was all over the place. Looking at the games I’ve actually played (as opposed to the ones I thought about playing) there wasn’t all that much variation.

I am guessing the sensation comes mostly from real life events which certainly felt like there were quite a few.

To top it all off I have been sick for the last three days. Don’t worry it wasn’t anything serious and I am almost back at 100% health. But it does mean I am starting February with low energy and a lot more introspection than usual.

Anyway, this is what I have been up to during in January, gaming-wise:

Games I’ve been playing – December 2020

Happy New Year!

May 2021 be a better year for all of us. Or at least not get any worse than the previous one. *knocks on wood*

This month Skyrim finally loosened it’s grip on me, so that I could move on to other games. I haven’t finished getting all the achievements for Special Edition yet but I intend to go back to it soon. My plan is to power through the remainder of the Dragonborn main questline (there shouldn’t be much left if memory serves) then work on the other optional achievements.

Once I complete that goal I am definitely done with this save and won’t be playing Skyrim again for a while as I am sated for what this game offered to me.

What I did play this month was a bit all over the place. It would have been more if it wasn’t for Minecraft but I will get to that in a bit. Let’s just go by chronological order. Sort of.

Games I’ve been playing – November 2020

November felt like a pretty unusual month for me. First because I only played a couple of games the entire month. It would even just be one game if FGO didn’t pretty much expect us to login every day. Granted, I tend to play 2 to 3 games each month so this isn’t all that much of a change, it is just that even with this focus, there was a lot of game fatigue but I will get more into that in a bit.

The other unusual thing was that this last weekend and Monday there were a lot of unfortunate incidents, like losing my line phone, my internet and my power twice all in the interval of a few days. It is all fixed now and hopefully it won’t happen again any time soon. *knocks on wood*

If I don’t have anything bad happen in the entirety of December I will be happy. Knowing my luck though, that won’t be the case. But enough whining from me, let’s just get to the point of this post.

Games I’ve been playing – October 2020

I don’t know what was up with this month. It started normally then at some point it is like it went into fast-forward, everything became like a blur and before I knew it the month was over. I guess that goes for this entire year, with some months feeling like they are taking a long time to pass with others feeling like “Wait, the month is over already?”

This kinda end up reflected in the games I played this month too…

Games I’ve Been Playing – September 2020

A good sign that I am having trouble writing the intro to these posts is when I seriously consider commenting on the weather here. I don’t really feel like doing that so let’s just pretend I wrote something relevant to the month of September here and skip straight to the content, ok?

Games I’ve been playing – August 2020

This has been another month where I played way less than I wanted to due to my mood just being… low, so to speak.

Seriously, brain, what is up with you? We should have been back to normal last month! Why are you still like this?

Random crazy talk aside, I did manage to make a bit of progress in a couple of the games I wanted to play. Not much progress but still better than nothing. Hopefully this month should be a bit better.

But that is enough rambling about that. Here is what I’ve played last month.

Games I’ve been playing – June 2020

I honestly thought I’d be able to finish at least a couple more games this month. But then I got distracted with modding Skyrim (more about it below) and all my plans went downhill.

Oh well, it wasn’t a bad month for gaming either way. I did make some progress in the games I cared the most and got to play a few others with friends. Plus there was the Steam Games Festival, which albeit short, was a nice way to get introduced to a bunch of great new games too.

With all that said, here are some thoughts on the games I’ve played this month:

Games I’ve been playing – March 2020

This is one of those months where all my best plans went down the drain for several reasons. The first one being that I just found myself irritated and and tired for no apparent reason since the last week of February. This is something that happens to me from time to time and fortunately it seems to be gone for now.

The other reasons were the games that pretty much took all my free time this month and what little energy I had. I did try to play some other ones but every time I thought about it I just didn’t find myself with the energy, the interest or the time for it. So only four games really occupied my time during this month.

Hopefully April will be better since as my emotions and energy levels aren’t nearly as bad now.

Games I’ve been playing – February 2020

February certainly felt like a busy month. I think part of it was because of all the Valentine’s events going on in online games. The other part was because despite my best intentions I ended up going into “MUST PLAY ALL THE GAMES!” mode near the end of the month.

That kind of crazy feeling might be settling down though and I might be getting back to a more manageable number of games to play. On the other hand this month has the release of a pretty good DLC for Stellaris and I believe Animal Crossing: New Horizons as well. Maybe even other games I am forgetting about. All of those might throw me into “MUST PLAY ALL THE GAMES!” territory again.

Oh, well. I will worry about that bridge when I have to cross it. For now these are the games I’ve been playing:
